OUR STORY

The Starter Haus began as a home bakery built on flour-dusted countertops, early mornings, and a deep love for sourdough. Founded by a professional pastry chef, wife, and mother of three, what started as a personal journey quickly grew into a mission to bring handcrafted, approachable baking into homes across the country.

While raising a young family, I found peace and creativity in the slow rhythm of sourdough. I started selling loaves locally from my front porch — just me, my kitchen, and a bubbling jar of starter that I fed daily like a fourth child. With every bake, I wasn’t just making bread — I was reclaiming the joy of making something real, something nourishing, something that slowed the day down.

My husband believed in this dream from day one. With his support and the encouragement of our growing community, I began to package and ship the very starter I had nurtured for years — now dehydrated and shelf-stable so bakers across the U.S. could begin their own journey, without the wait.

Today, The Starter Haus is more than just a bakery — it's a movement of home bakers, kitchen creatives, and busy families rediscovering the beauty of baking from scratch.
